Antioxidants : Vitamin E and Zinc
Vitamin E and zinc are essential nutrients with antioxidant properties which support the human immune system by suppressing the action of free radicals in the body. Found naturally in a variety of foods, vitamin E and zinc can also be taken as supplements for enhanced immune support.
Recent research has shown that male antioxidant therapy can improve sperm parameters.
60 patients with Recurrent Pregnancy Loss history (2 or more repeated, unexplained miscarriages in the first or early second trimester) were selected from an abortion clinic. These 60 male patients were chosen using the following criteria. The female partner of these male patients had normal anatomical, hormonal and physiological status. Therefore, the researchers concluded that their male partners did not have normal semen parameters which contributed to the Recurrent Pregnancy Loss history. All of the male patients were given 400IU synthetic vitamin E (ɑ-tocopherol) daily in combination with zinc (10mg) for 90 days.

Sperm parameters were analyzed in pre- and post-antioxidant therapy and the results of this research showed that all sperm parameters such as count, mobility, and morphology improved by a statistically significant amount after treatment. In addition, both the sperm concentration and the number of sperm with normal morphological shape increased after treatment with vitamin E and zinc. |
The results confirm that antioxidant therapy with vitamin E and zinc improved sperm count mobility and normal morphology in infertile men and therefore, increases pregnancy rates in infertile patients.Reference Nazari A, Sabeti P, Pourmasumi S.
